Ford Fund Mobilizes for HBCU Students Stranded by COVID-19

UNCF and Ford Fund establish emergency fund to support students in need

DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford Motor Company Fund—the philanthropic arm of Ford—has established a $100,000 emergency travel fund for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in the United States. In partnership with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), Ford Fund is providing emergency student aid to students who need financial assistance to pay for travel costs to get home. Interested students must meet financial aid requirements and should contact their HBCU to determine the amount of aid available.

"The sudden closure of many colleges and universities due to the COVID-19 crisis has presented a financial challenge affecting many students at HBCU's," said Pamela Alexander, director, Community Development, Ford Motor Company Fund. "We were glad to be able to work with UNCF to establish an emergency travel fund to get them back home."

In the first few days of the emergency fund roughly $40,000 was distributed to students allowing them to return home to their families.
