A look back at Ford Volunteer Corps projects in the first half of 2019
DEARBORN, Mich. — They painted, they planted, renovated and built. They even did a hackathon to better study insect populations. All told, more than 3,500 Ford employees spent 22,000 hours on 419 community service projects during the first six months of 2019. Hartnett Community Garden – Atlanta (March 2019)
Ford volunteers in Atlanta did some digging, planting and beautifying at Hartnett Community Garden, an outdoor classroom where children and families can learn about plants, soil and everything that makes your garden grow.

Greater Chicago Food Depository – Chicago (May 2019)
More than 30 Ford volunteers in Chicago helped repack over 11,500 pounds of sweet potatoes at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The sweet potatoes will be included in more than 14,000 meals distributed at soup kitchens, food pantries and by mobile food trucks.

Nearly 200 Ford volunteers come together once again to paint, make repairs, clean up and landscape Clark Park in southwest Detroit. For more than 20 years the Ford Hispanic Network has been a leading force in maintaining this popular neighborhood gathering place.

Athletes for Charity – Detroit (March 2019)
Ford volunteers joined forces with Athletes for Charity to host a Women’s History Month celebration at Clark Preparatory Academy in Detroit. Ford employees mentored students during the gathering which helped empower and support disadvantaged youth with literacy initiatives and STEAM programs.

Focus: Hope Grocery Delivery – Detroit (February 2019)
Ford Warranty Manager Denise Feil and members of her team joined Focus: Hope to deliver groceries to senior citizens at a Detroit apartment building. The Ford volunteers were continuing a tradition in Ford’s Service Engineering Operations (SEO) that dates back more than 20 years. -
Food Gatherers
Food Gatherers – Ann Arbor (February 2019)
Ford employees sorted and repackaged donated food at Food Gatherers in Ann Arbor. The food rescue program provides assistance to 170 area nonprofits. Ford offers employees 16 hours of paid community service each year.

YWCA – Nashville (April 2019)
Ford volunteers in Nashville went to work at the YWCA’s Weaver Domestic Violence Center, the largest shelter of its kind in the state of Tennessee. Ford employees gave the kitchen a deep cleaning, sorted and organized donations and made repairs to the children’s bikes at the residence.

Friends of Rouge
Friends of the Rouge – Dearborn (May 2019)
A team of about 30 Ford employees from Global Data Insight and Analytics volunteered to help Friends of the Rouge process data at the organization’s hackathon. Ford volunteers recently tapped into their daily work skills to help process two decades worth of information on the health of the waterway and benthic macroinvertebrates - water bugs that can indicate the health of the Rouge River.

Ford Employee Green Days Recycling event – Dearborn (June 2019)
Ford volunteers collected nearly 58,000 pounds of unused computers, monitors, TVs and printers during the 13th annual Green IT e-Waste recycling event in Dearborn. Ford employees also dropped off old child safety seats that expired or become damaged.

Friends of Maybury State Park – Northville (April 2019)
Ford volunteers warmed up a chilly spring day at Maybury Farm in Northville, Michigan. The Ford employees helped prep the educational farm for families by making repairs to the barn, fences and other parts of the facility.

Community Partner Gathering – Dearborn (March 2019)
The Ford Volunteer Corps hosted a gathering of community partners to brainstorm new ways to build stronger communities and make people’s lives better. More than 100 nonprofit representatives heard about the work of Ford Fund and were able to connect with each other and discuss different ways to engage the community and help more people.

Ford employees at the Tampa Business Center took their expertise into the community to help children learn some important life skills, such as financial basics and budgeting. Ford volunteers participated in several similar events at the Junior Achievement Finance Park.

Urban Neighborhood Initiatives – Detroit (June 2019)
This is what it looks like when a team of 50 Ford volunteers flock to a community service project. The Ford employees went to work helping turn a vacant lot into a safe, beautiful green space in southwest Detroit. Ford volunteers sifted rocks and debris from the soil, prepped the ground for planting and pulled weeds.

Hospice Foundation, Aga and Bolyai Children’s Homes – Verőce, Hungary (May 2019)
Ford volunteers in Hungary enjoyed an outdoor adventure with 60 kids from area homes for children. Ford employees organized a camping experience that included hiking, fishing, games and contests for the young people, who are orphaned, homeless or have special needs.

San Anton’s Church – Madrid, Spain (May 2019)
More than 300 Ford employees from five countries participated in the third annual Ford Vibrant Volunteer Week in Europe. Ford employees in Germany, Hungary, Romania, Spain and United Kingdom worked on 14 community service projects, including this one in Madrid, where Ford volunteers served serving hundreds of meals at San Anton’s Church.
