Ford Fund Gives Back to the African American Community

For more than 100 years Ford has invested in programs that enable social mobility and economic success in the African American community.

Over the last 50 years, Ford Fund has supported the NAACP, National Urban League, RainbowPUSH and other groups

supporting a broad range of programs addressing social justice, racism, equality and economic opportunity in the African American community.

Ford Fund launched a multicultural advisory committee in 2017 to develop innovative solutions for communities of color.

Groups include LULAC (League of Latin American Citizens), Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Anti-Defamation League, and Arab American and Chaldean Council.

Ford Fund has invested more than $60 million in education programs and scholarships for African American students over the past 20 years,

including Ford 1stGen a four-year educational pilot program launched in 2018 with Spelman College. Ford 1stGen provides financial, mentoring, educational and other resources to ensure that selected enrolled first-generation HBCU students achieve their goals of graduation and success in their chosen profession.

Ford has invested $13 million in our Detroit Ford Resource and Engagement Centers

providing for legal assistance, job training and entrepreneurship, health and well-being, food security and other social mobility programs.

Ford Fund provided a $100,000 emergency travel fund to assist HBCU students when the COVID-19 crisis hit.
